15 Music Supervisors on Twitter

May 11, 2009

A music supervisor is someone who coordinates, directs and arranges music and visual media for a production. Their main job is mainly to choose music and facilitate the administrative work that goes into licensing and clearing music for legal use in film, broadcast and new media projects.

I admit however, the back-end of music publishing and placement does seem somewhat mysterious. But the secret of music publishing is much like anything else in the entertainment industry. And those who learn the secret of music supervision, whether on the buying or selling-end can make a living. Music supervisors are an essential part of my work because they are how I find placement for music like, She’s Not Loving Me.

Recently, I have taken part in Darren Rowse’s 31 Day Challenge. The 31 Day Challenge is a project that involves teaching lessons and tasks to improve a blogger’s writing technique and marketing strategy. On day #2 of the challenge Darren asked us to put together a list-post for our blogs. I came up with a list that was not only interesting but also useful for me as a music producer and a blogger. It is a list of 15 Music Supervisors on Twitter:

  1. Steve Collins (@stevencollins)
  2. Ali Muhammad (@mrmuhammad)
  3. James Bowman, Jr. (@jamesbowmanjr)
  4. Lindsay Wolfington (@lonewolflindsay)
  5. Chris Langril (@ctburners)
  6. Danny Shays (@dannyshays)
  7. David Hayman (@davidhueyhayman)
  8. Randall Foster (@randallfoster)
  9. Sean Fernald (@oranj23)
  10. Travis Kirschbaum (@tkdee)
  11. Tom Andrews (@tomandrews)
  12. James Hyman (@jameshyman)
  13. Annie Lin (@annielin)
  14. Anne Litt (@anne_litt_kcrw)
  15. Marc Wallowy (@renommee)

UPDATE: How could I forget everybody’s favorite Music Supervisor for everybody’s favorite hit HBO Series, Entourage? BROKEMOGUL (@brokemogul)

A number of these music supervisors are bloggers as well. So it makes sense to reach out and include them in my blogging community. I have noticed over time that blogging can open doors of opportunity as well as build bridges of community. And perhaps this list-post will do both in the end. So please, Bookmark and Share this article.

Awesome list. Found a few on my own, but pooling these contacts will do a great service to a new wave of musicians in the twitter age. Kudos!

      Hi Maria,

I would be glad to add a music supervisor to the list however, you have not given a name of a music supervisor using Twitter.
